The winner of PARH USA's first ekphrastic poetry contest is Ruchi Chopra! With her poem “framed,” Ruchi offers a poignant personal response to Kaitlyn Holmes’s digital art piece Anxiety. Ruchi describes an alternative version of the woman portrayed in Kaitlin’s artwork— The woman who is the subject of each work expresses anxiety in her own way, but both seem to be responding to firsthand understanding of circumstances experienced by people of color.
A beautiful collection of poems: 365 pieces from over 30 authors from all over the world.
Pipal: The poem talks about inter-generational traumas and the lividness of exile. The poem is evocative about dispossessed people and exile and reinventing, reimagining, and celebrating the space, movement, and relationships to their place, home, and self.
On the evening of Sunday, April 12th, 2020, Chopra and others prayed for peace, solidarity, and harmony in the world. She continues this humanity-edifying practice, along with her family and friends, to this day.
One of my poems, "Welcome New Beginnings," was published in the Eastern World Newspaper, Uzbekistan.
